IS IT A PRIORITY TO BUILD A PORT IN SANYANG WITHOUT UPGRADING THE PORT OF BANJUL?

278

The primary task of the government of the Gambia should be to upgrade the Port of Banjul to be as competitive as the ports in neighbouring countries. Investments can only be enhanced when the appropriate measures are taken to facilitate them.

The port of Banjul is strategically located and could serve land locked countries like Mali if there is proper linkage between port upgrading and the opening up of the transportation corridors to neigbouring countries in a strategic way in accordance with the Ecowas Protocol on the Free Movement of Persons, Goods and Services.

A government with limited possibilities should focus on one thing at a time. As the old saying goes a bird at hand is better than many in the bush. Any development of a new port should be linked to the upgrading of the port of Banjul.
