QUESTION OF THE DAY
The decision of the villagers of Palen -Wolof to maintain a village fund and utilize it to purchase expensive fertilizer and supply each compound with a minimum quantity on credit to be paid after harvest, is proving to be a viable cooperative model that can ease the shock of high prices of fertilizer. If the village can do this what about the higher echelon of the state? The resilience of the people is enhanced by cooperative initiative. Without such effort none will be able to survive the higher price of fertilizer which has gone from D700 per bag to D2000 per bag. The future of the farmer and their general wellbeing lie in the cooperative model.
