International Conference Centre to be named After Former President

The Ministry of Information in a press statement has confirmed naming the International Conference Centre (ICC) after the former president, ‘Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara.

The Conference Centre in Bijilo, which was under construction, is now completed and is set for inauguration on Saturday 11 January 2019, by President Barrow by 10:00 am.

The foundation stone of the ICC was laid by President Barrow in September 2017 which was expected to be completed in two years in the tune of 50 million dollars.

According to the Ministry of Works The ICC, a grant by the People’s Republic of China, is a state-of-the-art facility consisting of a plenary hall with seating capacity of 1,031, four adjoining conference halls, VIP rooms, bilateral rooms, press room, meeting rooms, offices, banquet halls and entertainment spaces with beautiful fauna and sea view. The government refers to it as a symbol of the friendship and cooperation between The Gambia and The People’s Republic of China.

It is stated that attendance to the Inauguration ceremony is strictly by invitation and only card bearers will be allowed entry.
