IEC ISSUES RESULTS OF POLITICAL PARTY REGULARISATION

A press release issued by the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) yesterday, 25 April, states that it “…wants to make public the status of political parties as per the 2015 Elections Amendment Act.

Eight parties namely:

(1). Alliance for Patriotic Re-Orientation and Construction (APRC),

(2) United Democratic Party (UDP),

(3) National Reconciliation Party (NRP),

(4) People’s Democratic Organisation for Independence and Socialism (PDOIS),

(5) National Convention Party (NCP),

(6) People’s Progressive Party (PPP),

(7) Gambia Moral Congress (GMC) and

(8) Gambia Party for Democracy and Progress (GPDP) have met all the requirements and are bona fide political parties registered with the Commission.

National Alliance for Democracy and Development (NADD) has notified the Commission of its dissolution. National Democratic Action Movement (NDAM) has not met the requirements and is thus not recognized as a party, likewise Gambia Democratic Party (GDP).”
