The dismissal of the two lecturers is affecting the students of the university. In fact the students union has engaged in a consultative process to find out whether exams should be postponed or not. According to information reaching Foroyaa, 60 percent are in favour of postponement of the exam while 40 percent are opposed to this.
The ministry has indicated the willingness of the staff association to enter into negotiation with the authorities. The legal counsel of the lecturers however, is of the view that since the matter is before court, reinstatement and compensation should precede negotiation to enable a settlement to take place.
There is need for a break through so that the students can return to class. Both sides should consider an alternative dispute resolution of the problem so that the students do not suffer.
