Foroyaa has the intention to inform the Gambian people on the type of memorandum of understanding between The Gambia and two countries, namely Spain and Saudi Arabia aimed at providing employment to Gambians in these two countries.
It is also necessary to concretely indicate the institutions in The Gambia and the two other countries that are established to recruit employees for work in Spain and Saudi Arabia.
Thirdly, it is the intention of the paper to explain who is qualified to apply for recruitment. How many job openings are available and how many people are recruited on a monthly basis. The ministry of trade should have such data and make it accessible to the press when requested. Foroyaa has written to the ministry of trade for answers to questions to make Gambians get clear answers on the question of employment in Spain and Saudi Arabia.
We are yet to have the answers from the permanent secretary. The public will be informed as soon as the information is available.
However, efforts have been made to contact one of the recruitment agencies, Gamjobs to get an idea of what is going on with recruitment for jobs in Saudi Arabia.
According to Gamjobs they are being very careful in their recruitment drive for jobs in Saudi Arabia. They claim they are involved in a pilot project to test the job market, access and condition with respect to Gambians recruited. Hence they have recruited only ten Gambians with experience in working in the Middle East, out of 6000 applicants as a pilot initiative.
Foroyaa will try to pursue its monitoring of the pay and working conditions of those recruited to enable all Gambians who wish to be recruited to know what is at stake.
