QUESTION OF THE DAY

How are small businesses surviving in the Gambia today?

Many small businesses are surviving through bank overdraft. Many would collapse without such input. Government needs to undertake tax reform to save the small businesses.

Many extended Families now rely on periodic subventions from relatives abroad to establish one form of business or another to provide family income. Government needs to establish a tax reform commission and charge it with the responsibility of reviewing taxes and providing incentives to save small businesses.

The Government is calling on the young to do business instead  of using monies from the sale of family properties to go abroad. Unless the business climate improves the risk would be the same in not yielding dividends for families.
