Hon. Alhagie Sillah, National Assembly member for Banjul North has called Foroyaa to say that what he said at the National Assembly in respect of collection of waste in Banjul is misconceived and needs clarification.
This is in response to the publication made on the 8 October, 2016, captioned KMC spends over D500,000 at every ‘Set Setal’ Says Environment Minister.
This story included comments by Hon. Alhagie Sillah, who was quoted as saying, “people cannot keep their waste in their compounds for 2 or 3 months, citing an example that his waste was not collected for seven months.”
In a telephone call to clarify his position Hon. Sillah said he was not referring to his compound in Banjul but rather the compound where he is living in Manjai Kunda.
“I was not talking about my compound in Banjul, but I was talking about my compound in Manjai,” he asserted.
In response to this publication the BCC wrote to say that it is wrong to say that they do not collect waste for seven months and asserted that they have twice a week routine of systematic collection of waste in Banjul. Hon. Sillah’s point is that he was not referring to Banjul but his home in Manjai.
He indicated that he was not in town when the said article and the BCC response were published. He opined that the BCC should have waited for his return before taking any step.
“I have a lot of respect for Banjul, and whenever people come and tell me their problems in Banjul I always refer them to their Councillors.”
