Hawks FC have launched their title defence by beating the country’s most decorated club Wallidan FC 2-0 to claim The Gambia Football Federation (GFF) 2023 Super Cup at the KG5 Mini Stadium in Banjul on Saturday, 7th January 2023.
The reigning champions scored in both halves of the game courtesy of Sainey Sanyang and Baboucarr Saho respectively.
The league champions Hawks played against last season FA Cup winners Wallidan in a final attended by GFF President Lamin Kaba Bajo and Executive Committee Members of the football Federation, invited dignitaries and members of the football family.
Hawks were decorated with a giant trophy, gold medals and a cheque amounting to D100, 000.00, while Wallidan went home with a consolation of D50, 000.00 and silver medals.
Meanwhile, the game also featured a send-off ceremony for referees Maudo Jallow and Yaya Fanneh, who both retired following decades of service in refereeing.
“Both Referee Maodo Jallow and Assistant Referee Yaya Fanneh were each presented with a certificate, match ball and Gambia national team replica jersey to honor their long standing services in refereeing,” GFF media stated.
Also, GFF presented a cheque of D50, 000.00 to all 16 teams in the first division league as support money for this season. The money was provided by GFF official partners Baluwo.
