QUESTION OF THE DAY

HAVE ALL THE PRISONERS WHO HAVE BEEN INCAERATED BEEN PARDONED?

Parents, relatives and wives of prisoners who are incarcerated since the time of the Jammeh regime are still coming to Foroyaa to find out what they should do to have their loved ones released. It is absolutely necessary for the state to be proactive in ensuring the speedy release of such prisoners.

Foroyaa will begin to publish the names of such prisoners as a reminder. The public is very concerned that equity is not compromised in effecting the release of prisoners.

The release of prominent figures who are now ministers has set the pace and the current government should simply emulate the mass prisoner release employed by Jammeh, when it was most unexpected.

In the meantime those affected should write letters to the office of the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, copied to the Secretary General Office of the President to plead for the exercise by the president of prerogative of mercy in accordance with section 82 of the constitution to ensure the release of their loved ones.
