Gambia Wrestling Association are set to ‘act on’ the drama that marred
the weekend’s battle of titans, Foroyaa Sport can reveal.
Saturday’s combat featuring Gambia wrestling national team skipper
Leket Bu Barra and club Fekemachi Boleh’s juggernaut Mboran was marred
by drama after one of the wrestlers decided against fighting the opponent. The chaos began when the arbiter halted the wrestlers two minutes into
allocated time after he found out the carpet to which the fight was
been staged wasn’t properly covered with sand.
At that moment, the two had grappled and furious at the impromptu
break by the referee, Mboran disapprovingly gesticulated before
marching out refusing to continue the fight. The situation left an
impressive spectator turnout umbraged at the combat’s failure to
proceed.
Leket who’s unbeaten for the past two seasons was declared winner on
verdict of the referee on account his adversary failed to return to
the arena.
However, the Gambia Wrestling Association (GWA) are set to act on the
saga and are understood be to waiting for details of what transpired from the disciplinary committee before delivering a judgment.
Reached for comment, GWA’s Secretary General Habib Nyassi confirmed the story.
‘We are waiting to act on the issue that happened over the weekend. We
are only waiting for the report from the disciplinary committee. Then once
that is done, we will make a ruling,’ Nyassi told Foroyaa Sport
yesterday morning.]]>
