The Commissioner General of the Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA), Yankuba Darboe, has said the introduction of the new Integrated Tax Administration System (ITAS) will mark a fundamental shift in the way tax administration operates in The Gambia, making it imperative for tax administrators and agents to be fully prepared for the change.

Mr. Darboe made the remarks on Thursday, 14 August 2025, at a local hotel in Kotu during the opening of a one-day sensitization workshop for accountants on the ITAS.

The ITAS is a comprehensive, secure, web-based platform designed to modernize and streamline tax collection in The Gambia. According to Mr. Darboe, the system is not merely an upgrade of the current infrastructure but a complete overhaul that will move core tax services online.

“With the launch of the ITAS, taxpayers and accounting practitioners like you will be able to conduct E-Registration, E-Filing, E-Payment, and E-Funds,” he told participants, noting that the system will significantly reduce the time and effort required for tax compliance.

He further explained that the ITAS will enhance transparency, minimize human intervention, and provide a clear digital footprint for all transactions. “This system represents the future of tax administration—a future that is digital, efficient, and built on the principles of service, transparency, and integrity,” Mr. Darboe said.

The GRA boss underscored the importance of accountants being familiar not only with existing tax laws but also with the technologies and tools that will drive the new tax landscape. “We are confident that the ITAS system will bring a new era of transparency, accountability, and efficiency in our tax administration. It will reduce the compliance burden on taxpayers, minimize opportunities for fraud and corruption, and ultimately enhance domestic revenue mobilization for the continued development of our nation,” he said.

However, Mr. Darboe stressed that the system’s success depends on stakeholder participation. “Your understanding and support for ITAS will be instrumental in ensuring a smooth and successful transition for the entire nation,” he told the accountants.

He urged participants to embrace the system’s potential to improve fairness and efficiency in taxation. “It is through our engagement and adaptability that we can truly maximize the benefits of this system and contribute to a more robust tax environment,” Mr. Darboe added.
