The Gambia Police Force (GPF), in a press statement, has warned commercial vehicle drivers against any fare increment in the country.

Public Relations Officer of the Gambia Police Force ASP Modou Musa Sissawo said they have received reports of unapproved fare hiking by some commercial vehicle drivers operating on the Serekunda-Brikama route, with fares reportedly ranging from D50 to D100, above the approved rates.

According to the authorities of the Gambia Police Force, they strongly condemn this unlawful practice as unfair and another burden on commuters.

The PRO said all traffic police officers stationed on roads and checkpoints are instructed to monitor compliance and take appropriate action against violators. He urged the general public to report any instances of drivers overcharging fares to the nearest police station and be ready to be a witness to the matter. The GPF said it remains committed to ensuring that there are fair transport practices in the country, as well as protection for commuters from being exploited by commercial drivers.
