The Gambia Police Force (GPF) issued a press release on Monday 28 October 2024, to clarify and reassure Gambians, residents of the Gambia, and visitors, of the country’s safety and security.

The press release, which was signed by GPF’s PRO, ASP Momodou Musa Sisawo, is in response to misleading information that has been circulating on social media recently, regarding the security of the country.

According to the press release, the GPF reaffirms its commitment to maintaining peace and security across the country for all, particularly the Greater Banjul and Tourism Development Areas (TDA). The release said the Gambia remains a safe and welcoming destination for visitors, with dedicated police units that actively patrol key areas to ensure the public’s safety through swift response to any emerging concerns.

The release urges visitors and residents to take basic safety precautions avoid isolated areas and exercise caution when interacting with unknown individuals. Additionally, the release advises foreign residents and investors to carefully vet the individuals they appoint for domestic work because recent alleged incidents of murder have been linked to such circumstances.

The GPF urges the public to report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station, reiterating that it is working closely with tourism stakeholders, local communities, and security agencies, to maintain peace and stability across the country.

‘‘Our continued presence and proactive efforts reflect our commitment to provide a safe environment for everyone living or visiting The Gambia. We encourage residents and visitors to disregard the rumors that misrepresent the security situation in the country, and we stand ready to uphold peace and guarantee the safety of every individual within our borders. Your cooperation and vigilance are appreciated as we work together to ensure that The Gambia remains a safe and peaceful destination for all,” the GPF press release ends.
