Government Plans to Bridge Banjul/Barra Crossing Point

Transport, Works and Infrastructure Minister, Ebrima Sillah, has announced that the Government is devising plans to bridge the Banjul Barra ferry crossing point in order to alleviate the poor ferry service delivery experienced by commuters from Banjul-Barra.

Mr Sillah made this remark on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, during a signing ceremony for two new ferries purchased by the central government of the Gambia and the Islamic Development Bank.

According to the transport minister, the initiative is part of the ECOWAS corridor project.

“The long-term strategic goal of the Gambia government is to bridge Banjul Barra and feasibility studies have started.This is an ECOWAS corridor project which the Gambia is part of,” he said.

After making this remark, the National Assembly Member for Central Badibu at the gathering also called on the Government to fast-track the bridge process, saying bridging the area will bringa lasting solution to crossing from Banjul to Barra.
