GNTCA Executive Granted Bail

Justice Simeon Ateh Abi of the Banjul High Court has on 22 February 2016 granted bail to the executive members of the Gambia National Transport Control Association (GNTCA) in the sum of D500,000.00.

The nine GNTCA executive committee members namely Mumini Sey, President;  Jarga Faal, Vice President; Sheriff Dibba (deceased), Secretary; Morri Kebba Janneh, Treasurer; Sheikh Nyang, Assistant Treasurer; Alieu Ngum, Foday Bah, Ebou Lam and Kebba Sarr are all charged with a single count of ‘Economic crime’.

When the case was called in a crowded court room, which was full to capacity, Lawyer Jainaba B. Sambou told the court that
unfortunately one of the applicants Mr. Sheriff Dibba passed away on Sunday and in view of the circumstance, she wished to make an oral application for Mr. Dibba’s name be struck out.
Responding to Lawyer Sambou, the DPP said that requires a fresh application.

The trial judge in his ruling struck out the name of Sheriff Dibba.

Regarding the bail application filed by Lawyer Sambou on behalf of the accused persons, the DPP did not object to it.

Justice Abi granted bail to all the accused persons to
the sum of D500, 000.00 with one Gambian surety who must swear to an affidavit of means. He further ruled that all the accused persons should submit their ID cards and passports to the Principal Registrar of the High Court and to be reporting to the Principal Registrar every Tuesday.
