Gambia Milling Corporation Company (GMCC) Staff who were on protest on Monday, 27 February, and wanted
to boycott work until their demands were considered by the management have resumed work. This reporter yesterday, visited the company to get the response of the Manager on the issue since he was not available for interview on the day of the strike. The reporter met all the staff working as usual.
A security officer who was met at the gate told Foroyaa that the day after the strike, the staff were asked to continue with their normal duties as the management promised to look into their demands and see how to address them.
During the visit, this reporter was told that the managing Director was not in the office. The Human Resources Manager (HR) told this reporter that they are still negotiating with the workers and promised to inform the paper of the outcome of their negotiation. “We are still looking into the demands of the staff and we will see the best thing we could do in order to satisfy them,” he stated.
It could be recalled that the staff of the GMC Company have a long list of complaints about things they are not satisfied with at their workplace and have made demands for reforms to be effected at their office. The list is as follows:
- They need a qualified Gambian HR as per their constitution/PMO
- 100% medical insurance
- Full time employment after 6 months of probation
- Access to loan for all employees and the provision of a staff bus
- Respect for employees and employing the right people at the right post
- Salary increment and allowing them to have a staff association.
