Gloucester Street Scoop NAM Sillah’s U-16 Tourney

Gloucester Street over the weekend beat James Senegal to snatch title of Banjul North parliamentarian Ousman Sillah’s U-16s tourney.

The eight-team tourney which started on Tuesday, 3 September, ended Sunday, 8 September, at the Gambia High School football and witnessing Gloucester Street locking horns with James Senegal in the last round.
It was a thrilling final which ended in 1 nil in favour of the Gloucester Street team which took away the trophy, a football and cash prize of D1500. The lone goal of the winning team was scored by Mustapha King in the dying minutes of the second half after a very tough encounter.

The runner-up, Jameson, went away with a consolation prize of D1000 and a football.

The third place which was the first match went to the New Perseverance Street team after they defeated Haddington Street two nil. They went with a football and cash prize of D500.

The leading goal scorer, Libass Jobe of James Senegal, who scored 6 goals was also awarded a trophy.
The other five participating teams were each given a consolation prize of D250.

According, to the Banjul North NAM, this football tournament is meant to engage the young people of the constituency in a meaningful way during the summer holidays period through sports to promote cohesion and fraternity among them.
He said this is the second year in a row that this tournament is being organised for the children in the constituency and will continue as an annual event during his tenure.

He thanked his partners and co-sponsors such as his team, Bayba, Ace Advertising, Day Ten, Banjul Sports Committee, parents and well-wishers for supporting him to successfully organise this football tournament.
