The Gambia Immigration Department (GID) has reported a sharp rise in passport applications in recent weeks, prompting the department to implement enhanced measures to streamline processing and improve efficiency.

“In ensuring the efficient and secure processing of these applications, the department has implemented strategic operational plans designed to streamline processes, enhance security measures, and provide a more efficient service to the public,” said Siman Lowe, GID’s Public Relations Officer, in an official statement.

GID outlined the passport application process, noting that it involves multiple stages, including submission, interview, enrolment, verification, approval, and production, each requiring careful review. To maintain order and reduce delays, applicants will now be scheduled for interviews and enrolments on separate days. This scheduling change is intended to improve efficiency for both staff and applicants.

The department highlighted its commitment to meeting the demand, with staff working overtime and on Saturdays. “We kindly request your patience and understanding as we work to process your applications as quickly as possible,” the department added.

GID further urged applicants to adhere to scheduled appointments and fully cooperate with staff to ensure a smooth and efficient process, saying, “With concerted effort, we can ensure a robust and efficient passport application process.”
