The Gambia Information and Communication Technology Agency (GICTA) on Tuesday convened an ICT Cadre Staff Sensitization Forum, bringing together ICT professionals from public institutions to enhance collaboration and alignment with the country’s digital transformation agenda.
Held under the theme “Strengthening Collaboration: Ensuring a Seamless Transition for ICT”, the forum aimed to synchronize efforts across the public sector and ensure ICT initiatives are aligned with the National ICT Strategy.
In his remarks, Malang Bass, Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Communication and Digital Economy, described the forum as timely and necessary for The Gambia’s ongoing digital transformation. “This engagement is key to enhancing efficiency, harmonizing operations, and building a future-ready ICT sector,” he said.
Professor Abdou Karim Jallow, Director General of GICTA, emphasized that the forum marks a foundational step in consolidating ICT efforts nationwide. “This is a platform to ensure that ICT cadres across public institutions align their work with national priorities, foster consistency, and uphold standards,” he said.
Prof. Jallow clarified that GICTA’s role is not to replace existing public structures, but to complement and support the development of ICT across government sectors. “The world is evolving rapidly, and our ICT cadre must evolve with it. We are here to provide mentorship, drive performance reform, and address fragmentation within the ICT workforce,” he stated.
He added that digital transformation is not merely about systems and technology but about empowering people. “This structure is being built for you—as the key architects of the digital future The Gambia needs.”
Speaking at the event, Lamin Jabbie Esq., Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, stressed the importance of strengthening the ICT cadre to accelerate public sector digitization. “You are not just fixing computers and networks; you are designing systems that facilitate information flow and financial transactions. Your role is central to building a digital economy,” he told participants.
Minister Jabbie underscored the need to create equitable access to technology and ensure every citizen can participate in the digital ecosystem. He urged cadre members to demonstrate commitment and integrity as they lead The Gambia’s digital transformation. “You are the future. The direction this country is ready to take depends on your professionalism and dedication,” he concluded.
