GIA MD IN DETENTION FOR 29 DAYS NOW

By Mustapha Jallow Mr Bakary Nyassi, the Managing Director of the Gambia International Airline (GIA), is still detained at the Brusubi Police Station without court appearance or bail for 29 days now, exceeding the constitutionally mandated duration of 72 hours. According to family sources, the reason for the arrest and subsequent detention of Mr. Nyassi is not made known to them, although they are not hindered access to him at the Brusubi police station. When contacted to shed light on the long detention of the GIA MD yesterday, ASP David Kujabi, the Public Relation Officer (PRO), told this reporter that he does not know anything about the issue. It could be recalled that Mr. Nyassi was arrested on Tuesday, 19th August 2014 and subsequently detained at the Brusubi Police Station since then and which is now coming to one month without being taken to court or release. According to family sources, he was at the time of his arrest preparing to go abroad for studies.  ]]>
