By Mustapha Jallow Mr. Bakary Nyassi, the Managing Director of the Gambia International Airline (GIA), who was arrested and held at the Brusubi Police station on Tuesday, 19th August, 2014 is now in detention without trial for 15 days. This detention without charge or bail has exceeded the 72 hours mandated by the Constitution of the republic for the detention of a person. A close family source told this reporter that Mr. Nyassi is being allowed access to his family members. However, when ASP David Kujabi, the Public Relation Officer (PRO) of the Gambia Police Force (GPF), was earlier contacted on the matter, he told this reporter that he was not aware of the arrest of Mr. Nyassi but promised to find out and then get back to him. Since then, efforts to reach him proved unsuccessful. It could be recalled Mr. Bakary Nyassi was invited by the Police in Brusubi at about 4pm and was detained upon his arrival at the Station. Our source added that before his arrest and detention, security agents went to look for him at both the Banjul International Airport and his residence in Lamin but could not find him.]]>
