GIA Manager, Bakary Nyassi, Detained for 44 Days without Trial “The reason for his arrest is unknown to us,” says family members

By Mustapha Jallow It’s now 42 days since the arrest and detention without trial of the former Managing Director of the Gambia International Airline (GIA), Mr.BakaryNyassi. Mr. Nyassi is detained for 42 days at the Brusubi Police Station. According to a family source, Mr. Nyassi is supposed to go abroad for studies which have now been delayed because of his detention at Brusubi. When asked whether Nyassi is charged by the security agents, the source said no reason is being put forward regarding his arrest. The family source took this opportunity to appeal to the authorities to release their breadwinner. Mr. Nyassi who was arrested on Tuesday, 19th August 2014 and subsequently detained at the Brusubi Police Station is now in custody for more than one month without being taken to court or released. Family members say at the time of his arrest, he was preparing to go abroad for further studies.  ]]>
