Former Finland, Belgium and Hungary national team coach Martti Kuusela
is not among those vying for the vacant top managerial job of the
Scorpions, according to the GFF.
The position of the coach of the Gambian national team has becomevacant after the departure of Bonu Johnson, who is now deployed to the
local-based national team and CHAN outfit, instead.
After the announcement of the vacancy, a plethora of foreign coaches
have applied for the position.
Among those identified are Kuusela and the ex-gaffer of Burkina Faso,
the Belgian-born Paul Put.
Put, who according to a source, is favoured to land the job and has
been touted to return to the fold for months after publicly making his
intentions known during the WC 2014 qualifiers, is believed to be in
the race along with Kuusela.
But the Gambia Football Federation yesterday moved to refute the rumour.
A top GFF official said: ‘I am not in a position to give names of all
those who’ve applied. But Kuusela is not part of them (the
applicants).’
Martti a former midfielder and football pundit has coached Cyprus and Denmark.
