The Gambia Football Federation (GFF) has labeled the reports circulating on social media of their appointment of a new Gambian coach as fake. A release from the football house on Tuesday, 13 February indicated that they have still not appointed a new coach to replace Tom Saintfeit, who resigned after failing to impress at the recently concluded African Cup of Nations (AfCON).

“The Gambia Football Federation (GFF) wishes to inform the general public that news circulating on social media that the GFF has appointed Sang Ndong as new Head Coach of the Senior National Team is fake,” the release stated.

GFF said the process of recruiting a new head coach has just begun with the drafting of the advertisement by the Technical and Development Committee.

“The GFF has since shared the draft advertisement with the Ministry of Youth & Sports for advice as to how to proceed. After that process, the position will be advertised on the national newspapers which will be followed by a shortlisting of candidates and interview by the Technical and Development Committee. They will then make recommendations to the Executive Committee of the GFF, who in consultation with the Ministry will make the appointment.”
