Gamtel Football Club has been Gambia’s most regular club vying for stakes in the Confederation of African 
Football competitions in recent years but were left gasping for air with their hopes dashed following a defeat by Morocco’s Olympique Khourigba.
The Gambian champions came in for a beating, after losing on a score of 2-1 on both legs, thus leading the team’s exit from the Caf Champions League.
It was the telecoms giant’s first outing in the CAF Champions League being a tournament they qualified for after clutching their first domestic GFF league title in the previous year.
Wafu Cup finalists and Confederation Cup regulars, the Gambian outfit cut a hordes of forlorn figures after getting jettisoned off Africa’s most prestigious club championship; and gaffer Tapha Manneh believes their new-comer status could be attributed as one of array of things that worked against his team triggering their early exit.
‘We have experience in the other competition (Confederation Cup) but the competitions are different. This is the first time we are playing this tournament, so is new to the boys somehow,’ Manneh Gambian FA Cup quadruple-time decorated coach says in aftermath of his team’s elimination.
‘It wasn’t a bad game. We used three strikers. It was a purely attacking game. We used Modou Sarr in that position (behind the striker) to help in that area,’ Manneh, erstwhile Gambia U-20 tactician insists in defence of his tactical approach which many believe counted against his outfit.
