By Sulayman Bah Gamtel have maintained their lead at the top of the league table after beating Tapha MannehBombada 2-1 in the ongoing First Eco sponsored GFF league. Real de Banjul caught up with Gamtel on thirty-one points after shocking capital nemesis Hawks courtesy of a Famara Jarju’s free-kick who saw his season goal tally soar to five. The league champions sharing of the top spot had occurred prior to Gamtel’s match againstBombada. But the outcome of results on Monday evening propelled the telecom giants to the top, three points ahead of Real who now occupy second place on 31 points. Tapha Manneh’s Gamtel are ardent on bringing a successful end to their long-standing league trophy drought this campaign and must win the rest of the remaining five matches to stand a chance with Real on a game in hand. They are already on road to attaining the feat but with Real one game less than rest of the division other title contenders, fans could well be in for a dramatic treat on the final day of the league. Elsewhere Serrekunda United bettered their hopes of avoiding the drop by fending off Interior whom they held to a goalless draw at the Serrekunda East mini-stadium. Wallidan, finally, picked all points a breezing past Armed Forces on a 1-0 score. Meanwhile Brikama United have resumed league action after the club’s team bus was involved in an accident last week. The team was heading for a scheduled domestic league match when it collided into a car along the Jimpex road. There were no deaths but slight injuries to players with the team bus-driver the only one to have been hospitalised before being later released. Players, following the accident, were routinely subjected to medical check up before being let go to reunite with their various families. However, on the back of that road incident, Brikama United players have resumed league action adding mystery to Bakau United championship woes with two goals from Sainey Bojang and play-maker Bully Drammeh enough to inflict damage on the red half of Bakau, in Brikama. The win intensified the race for the title as United close the gap to league leaders Gamtel to three points as of Sunday.    ]]>
