The detention without trial of Mr. Seedy Jaiteh, a former Human Resource Director of Gamtel/Gamcel, has recently clocked one year without him being released or allowed access to his family, according to a close source.

Mr. Jaiteh is said to be held at the state central prison at Mile Two outside the capital city of Banjul.

The source indicated that the family is appealing to the authorities to release him as his continued absence in the household is traumatising both his immediate and extended families.

Mr Jaiteh was picked up at his home in Manjai Kunda by men believed to be state security agents.

The source revealed that immediately after Mr. Jaiteh was abducted and whisked away in a numberless vehicle with tinted glasses, the family went searching for him at the different known detention centres in the country such as the NIA, Police Headquarters, NDEA Holgam centre at Kanifing South and other police stations but in vain. He said their loved one was finally traced at the NIA in Banjul where they were initially allowed to be taking food to him but which lasted for only few days.

“Since the 3rd of September 2014 the family members have been denied access to him,” revealed the source.

It was reported that the family was highly optimistic that Mr. Jaiteh would be among those to be released by the President, as part of his release of detainees and mass pardon of convicted prisoners, but were disappointed that their loved one was not after all reuniting with his family.
