The Gambia Police Force has denied reports that Assistant Superintendent Binta Njie was arrested or interrogated over a social media post.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, February 25, police addressed speculation that Njie, the former spokesperson for the force, had been summoned for questioning in connection with a Facebook post she made. The post reportedly responded to comments by Baboucarr Barhoum about Kiang and its people, which had sparked widespread debate online.

“The Gambia Police Force remains committed to upholding professionalism and ethical standards among all officers,” said Cadet Assistant Superintendent Modou Musa Sisawo, the current police spokesperson.

Sisawo clarified that while Njie remains subject to internal regulations governing police conduct, she has not been detained or questioned. “Officers are expected to maintain the integrity and impartiality of the Police and must refrain from actions that could compromise the institution’s reputation,” he said.

He added that the matter would be handled administratively in line with established disciplinary procedures and that further updates would be provided when necessary.
