Gambian international footballer Ebou Adams has signed a three-year deal with Derby County after a successful loan spell in the second half of the 2023/24 season with the Rams.

The Gambian midfielder joined Derby from rivals Cardiff City for an undisclosed fee.

“The 28-year-old made 17 appearances in total, scoring once, and quickly became a fans’ favourite as Paul Warne’s side secured automatic promotion back to the second tier,” the club stated.

“He is Derby’s fifth signing of the summer after the arrivals of Ben Osborn, Kayden Jackson, Jerry Yates and Kenzo Goudmijn in recent weeks and has linked up with the Rams’ squad at their training camp in Spain.”

Speaking to the RamsTV after signing a contract until 2027, Ebou said he was over the moon and happy that the deal has been finalised.

“I think it’s a long time coming. Nothing’s certain in life, but I was really hoping it would go through and I’m very grateful that it has. And now I can continue smiling again and enjoy myself,” he said.

On waiting for the move to materialise, Ebou said he exercised patience and heeded to his family and close people’s advice for him not to think about the move too much. He admitted that he would have lost his mind if he did.

“To be fair, one of the Derby fans was tagging me every single day on social media. And I was probably thinking like him: ‘When’s it going to happen?’ We’re here now, so I think we can all relax and take a breath. A big breath!” he said.

The Gambian midfielder further said it’s now time for them to get their heads down and fight for every game in the Sky Bet Championship.

Commenting on his progress from last season and what to expect in the forthcoming season, Ebou said: “I think that’s a target, it has to be for me, because last year I was doing alright, I guess. But I think for me it’s important just to be consistent, keep putting in the performances I have been, because I know a bit of the level and it will be tough. We need to just enjoy the moment, like I said, Derby are back where they belong. Let’s see what we can do. I’m looking forward to it, I can’t wait.”
