Young Gambian track sensation Omar Jammeh was at his best crossing the line to clinch top spot in a recent Omar Jammeh 1competition in Dakar.

Held at the Dakar International Training Centre, Omar wowed the crowd after beating off rivalries from Ababcar Sock, Malik Sarr of Jaaraf, El Hadji Malick Ba and Mbaye Laye to finish off on an impressive timing of  3: 55:7 in the 1, 500m race.

It was the Gambian’s first outing since the start of the season, last Saturday.

Jammeh is among a legion of Gambian track stars shipped to train in Senegal in order to remain competitive ahead of the forthcoming international athletics competitions as Gambia’s stadium is currently undergoing a massive renovation.

Omar remains upbeat of hitting the qualification mark for the Olympic to be held this year in the Rio Brazil.

The youngster and Adama Jammeh are the two athletes who were afforded chance to train in France in a bid to bolster their hopes of booking tickets to Rio.

Omar has a Personal Best Timing of 3:54:02 in the 800m.

In a similar sport event, track queen Mariama T. Jallow came second behind a Kenyan in the 42km marathon in the EFFIGE de Marathon in Senegal.

Jallow, who is becoming a household name in the women category of long distance running, competed along with few other athletes scouted from Gambia’s Police Department.
