Gambia wrestling national team will leave for the much talked about Ecowas tournament today, Foroyaa Sport can report.Lekett Bu Barra

The five-man Gambian side camped in Koloi to intensify preparations ahead of start of the championship.

They face Senegal -who had a rambunctious show in the Ecowas super 4-nation – and who are hosts of the regional 3-day event.

Team coach Seedy Chorr last week unveiled his roster setting the ground rolling for the country’s participation in the 7th edition of the regional wrestling showdown.

Disclosure of the list of selected wrestlers prompted a wave of enthusiasm with pundits tipping Gambia for a potential trophy haul in the wake of the reinvention of the onetime fading traditional sport.

However, the team was hit with a slight setback amid emerging details of lack of funding for camping prompting Samaritans to come to the national team’s rescue.

Foroyaa Sport was informed that the team was yet to camp and were waiting on funding from the National Sports Council.

However all now appears settled with the squad expected to travel today.

Amongst invited wrestlers are Papa Sowe 66kg, Rambo 76kg, Viper 100kg, Amadou Ndour 120kg with Leket Bu Barra to wrestle in the 86 kg category.
