At the State House on Saturday, 26 April 2025, the Government of The Gambia signed four cooperation agreements with China’s Heilongjiang Province. The signing ceremony was presided over by President Adama Barrow and Xu Qin, Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC), Heilongjiang Provincial Committee.
The signed agreements include an Agreement on a water project through borehole digging and the promotion of sports infrastructure, an Agreement on free cataract surgeries, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on talent exchange and capacity building, and a MoU for the provision of non-genetically modified rice seeds.
Additionally, agreements were signed covering areas such as agriculture, road maintenance, rice production, land development, and bridge construction.
The government did not provide further details to the press regarding the specific contents, timelines, or financial arrangements tied to these agreements.
