The Gambian Guardian Intelligence and Investigative Services have donated modern gadgets to The Gambia Police Force with the aim of equipping them with modern tools for crime investigation and crime scene management.
The donors said the gesture was one way of contributing to the improvement of the country’s security and also compliment the government’s effort in the reformation of the criminal justice system.
Omar Tunkara, speaking on behalf of Modou Lamin Faye, Director of Gambian Guardian Intelligence and Investigative Services said they are a non-profitable organisation that stands to contribute their quota to national development. He stated that the father of the founder of the association was a policeman and it served as a motivation to support the police with the tools to help in their work.
“We are donating these forensic and investigative equipment to help enhance the way crime scenes, evidence gathering and investigations are handled,” Tunkara said.
Momodou Sowe, Deputy Inspector General of Police thanked the organisation for donating to the Gambia Police Force.
“Indeed, we are in the 21st century in which it is science and technology that leads. So, it is imperative that we catch up with science and technology in order to do what is required of us,” he said, adding that “Most of the work we do is old-fashioned.”
Sowe stressed that the police need more equipment to meet up with the demand of time. He said the donation will boost their capacity and effectiveness because those were some of the items they are in need of.
The deputy IG continued with his statement saying the equipment means a lot to the police force adding that they can do a lot using them. He said The Gambia police will modernise, re-equip, retrain and reform its service delivery to the people.
The equipment donated are; Evidence bags, crime scene evidence markers, camera for taking pictures at crime scenes, shoe covers, Swab with Tube and Labels for collecting DNA samples or blood Sampling, Tire and Footprint Casting Frames, 15g Luminol Powder Reagent, Blood Finding Revealing Agent, scene Footprint Casting, Heavy-duty Full Body Protective Suits, Plastic Gloves, Microscope Slides and Covers, Blank Glass Slides for Microscopy Experiments and Analysis, UV Black Light Flashlight Small Blacklight Flashlights Pen Lights for detecting blood and other fluids at crime scenes, Basic Latent Fingerprint Kit, Bichromatic, Crime Scene Do Not Cross Barricade Tape 3 inch X 1000 feet, Adhesive Evidence Label 4 X 6 Inches – Stick on Evidence Stickers.
