The government of the Gambia has opened up a two day induction training meant to train its new cabinet misters on good governance ahead of their efforts in bringing the country to democratic rule.

The training that was also meant to give operational excellence for the newly sworn in Gambia Cabinet members was organized by GK Partners and the Office of the President and held at Kairaba Beach Hotel on Saturday.

Speaking at the event’s opening, Mr. Ousainou Darboe, said the training is the first of its kind in the Gambia and added that the new ministers will benefit a lot from this induction.

According to Darboe, the trainer Gibril Faal has trained Ministers in both Liberia and Sierra Leone who found the training very helpful. He expressed the hope that it will help the Gambian ministers as well.

Gibril Faal in his remarks said he is grateful and humble to be part of the first induction of cabinet ministers in the history of the Gambia.

Faal said they will require civil servants, the Government and civil society and corporations to open up options for value added and contributions from the experiences they gained aboard.

“The purpose of this induction is effectively to exploit how the new cabinet will deal with matters of good governance and management operations,” he said.

He noted that the new Gambia as a developing country will have some requirements difference from developed countries.

So therefore, “we will be having a conversation mainly to ask you difficult questions so that you can exploit and challenge yourself and we will get a sort of a road map on how you exploit your ministries including your individual plans and priorities in term of your time in office.”
