GAMBIA ENDS YEAR ON DISMAL NOTE ON FIFA

By Sulayman Bah There are talks of rejuvenating Gambian football internationally but Gambiasurely not in deeds as the Scorpions unprepossessing run continues on FIFA. Coach-less Gambia have been forced to finish the year on a dismal note as the Scorpions dropped further down the FIFA order sliding to 168 in the world. With a mere ninety points, a side once considered Africa’s biggest emerging football nation in 2008, has been on the downward spiral and this month’s ranking, issued yesterday morning, is far from being any positive news . In Africa the nation’s unending slide sees no sign of abating sitting 47th – nine places from the bottom. Algeria leads in Africa followed by Tunisia, Ivory Coast and Senegal at fourth with flops Nigeria, who, failed to book a qualification ticket, at 9th. World Cup winners Germany unsurprisingly are atop with Argentina, Colombia and Belgium at 2nd, 3rd and 4th. The ranking is based on performance including test matches and matters will only get worse for the tiny West African nation unless Gambia begins to hold test matches giving they are ineligible to compete in the Afcon qualifiers.]]>
