By Sulayman Bah Gambia captain Abdou Jammeh is on the brink of winning his first premier league title after almost eleven-year Gambia captain Abdou Jammehhunt, Foroyaa Sport can report. With the sobriquet T.Boy, Abdou Jammeh first turned professional 2005 with Tunisia’s ES Zarzis. It’s nearly eleven years to this day for the no-nonsense defender. A journeyman player, Abdou’s love for the round object has taken him to numerous clubs abroad. Cyprus’s Doxa Katokopia, Russia, Belgium and even Kuwait all count on the defender’s list of illustrious of previous stints. He now does defensive service for Finland’s RoPS a club he joined only this year. For all the countless slaloming of the world’s football space, T. Boy has five silverwares, four been runners-up accolades with one a second division winners’ medal while an SK Lierse player. But surprisingly, never a major premier league title. However that could soon be a thing of the past if his recent strides with club RoPS is any to go by. The 29-year-old has starred in twenty-five of the twenty-eight games played and this week proved much of a handful against minnow KTP, helping his club break Ousman Jallow and Demba Savage HJK’s dominance of the league, at least temporarily. Abdou and co romped to a 4-0 win over KTP to climb top of the table for the first-time in the near end of the league. That was helped by HJK’s unflattering draw to second-from-bottom Jaro RoPS now lead the standings by two points although they have played more games and still contending HJK have to games in hand. Striker Kokko’s 13-goal has been indispensable but so are Abdou’s performances in defence. With matters now changed, and a domineering HJK at least cowed, the new Gambian national team captain will hope the current trend continues as he targets to get the final laugh at season’s end with his first premier league major title after an almost eleven-year hunt.]]>
