With Mamour M. Mbenga John Louis Gomez, alias JLG, is a Gambian hip hop artiste currently living in Brusubi Phase two. He was born and grown up in London Corner on 28 August 1994 and graduated in 2013 at Saint Augustine’s High school in Banjul. He later proceeded to pursue a one year Diploma course on Peace and Conflict at the Management and Development Institute (MDI). JLG is currently pursuing a BSc Program in Political Science at the University of The Gambia (UTG). In an interview with Foroyaa Art and Music, JLG disclosed his plans regarding the music projects and the released of his new single Gam Hip Hop. ‘’First of all, I thank you for granting me an interview. My new song ‘Gam Hip Hop’ is a hip hop song featuring Tam 50 and Baba Blood. The song was produced by Hot Sauce Production and released in January 1st 2015. The main concept of the song explains the Gambian hip hop music in the community, as everybody knows that hip hop ‘‘Rabu mbeda la’’ (It’s a street music) that talks about street life and daily activities that happens within our society. I have a lot of projects in the pipeline and I’m working hard to release a professional production,’’ said JLG. He also said his aim is to work hard and represent the Gambia at the international music stage. I also want to swerve my country in other capacities. JLG also urge the members of the public including DJ’s, music promoters, producers, event organizers, journalists, etc. to put more effort in supporting Gambian artistes, especially the young talents to help them develop their careers in the entertainment arena. ‘’ I love reading, sport and music as my hobbies,’’ he said.
