Broadway Charity Foundation has on Friday, 19 July 2024 donated football equipment to a local team in Kanifing Municipality.
This is part of the foundation’s gesture to give back to communities and associations that are less privileged. The foundation has been supporting the institution, but this is the first time it is extending its assistance to football teams.
Mr Momodou Camara, the Chief Executive Officer of Broadway Foundation, said the foundation is established to help vulnerable people in society.
“In the past years we have been donating medical equipment to health facilities and also giving support to individuals, especially students,” he said.
Camara said the foundation also partnered with individuals and other organizations and supported those they thought needed to be supported.
“This football team that is benefiting from the foundation came to me and explained their challenges to me some months ago. I had a meeting with some members of the foundation and we were able to assemble some equipment and cash to help them participate in this year’s summer tournament at the Serrekunda West Mini-Stadium,” he said.
Mr Camara continued: “I believe sport is another mechanism that can deviate the minds of our young people from criminal activities. If the young people are engaged, they will distance themselves from crimes.”
MrCamara said sports have also changed the lives of some young people within a short period.
“We all know that sports like football have a lot of benefits, its career is short but it can change your life and that of your family members within a short period,” he added.
Mr Dawda Sambou, who spoke on behalf of the team, said there are many teams who always want to participate in tournaments, but it is very expensive.
“We are grateful to the Broadway Foundation for their support, we approached them in less than a month and we were able to receive these equipment from them,” he said.
He urged other institutions to support youths in their various sporting activities so that they will be able to experiment their talents and become productive in society.
