Foroyaa would like the minister of agriculture, livestock and food security to accompany our reporter to the villages of Jahally, Pacharr and Kerewan to find out how many people are not benefitting from the Maruo Farms scheme which the ministry focuses on as a success story. We would like to inform the minister of the need for balanced reporting by GRTS on the original Jahally-Pacharr rice project and show in a comprehensive manner who are or are not benefiting from the Maruo Farms scheme.
Should the ministry or GRTS fail to meet those who used to benefit from the Jahally-Pacharr rice scheme but are now completely ignored, Foroyaa will take up their case to show how they are consuming what they used to call stinking rice because of being deprived of the farm inputs that used to enable them to have bumper harvest.
Focusing on well-financed and well equipped private sector farms and ignoring the condition of family farms will only reduce these farmers into vulnerable poor people. Government should shift its focus to family farms.
We will pause to wait for the invitation of the minister for continuation of this stor of the famil farmers of Jahall, Pacharr and surrounding areas who sued to the original beneficiaries of rain fed farms.
