Finance Minister to Respond to Audit Reports on GAMTEL, NAWEC Today

Finance Minister Seedy Keita is set to appear before the National Assembly today to respond to the Public Enterprise Committee (PEC) report on the service delivery of the Gambia Telecommunications Company (GAMTEL).

This was outlined in the National Assembly’s order paper for Monday, 3rd March 2025, as approved by the Office of the Clerk for the First Ordinary Session of the legislative year.

“In accordance with Standing Order 100, the Minister for Finance is scheduled to appear before the plenary to provide his reply to the Report of the National Assembly Standing Committee on Public Enterprises on the Performance Audit Report of GAMTEL service delivery by the National Audit Office,” the Office of the Clerk stated.

Additionally, the Finance Minister will address lawmakers on the committee’s report regarding its oversight visits to key state enterprises, including the National Water and Electricity Company (NAWEC), the Social Security and Housing Finance Corporation (SSHFC), and the Gambia Radio and Television Services (GRTS).

Meanwhile, today’s parliamentary session will also include the laying of several bills. The Minister for Trade, Regional Integration, and Employment will present the third reading of the Gambia Legal Metrology Bill, 2025, in accordance with Standing Orders 74(8) and 75.

The first reading of the Local Government (Amendment) Bill, 2024, will be presented by Hon. Yahya Sanyang, Member for Latrikunda Sabiji, under Standing Order 65. Additionally, the second reading of the Waste Management Bill, 2024, will be conducted by the Minister for Environment, Climate Change, and Natural Resources, in line with Standing Order 61(2).

The Office of the Clerk also announced that this parliamentary session will run from 3rd to 28th March 2025. During this period, President Adama Barrow is expected to deliver his 2025 State of the Nation Address (SoNA), in accordance with Section 77 (1) of the 1997 Constitution and Standing Order 24 of the National Assembly.

The session will also cover key government businesses, including the second reading of the Constitution of the Republic of The Gambia (Promulgation Bill, 2024), ministerial question-and-answer sessions, reports from parliamentary committees and delegations, as well as various motions and bills.

“The daily sittings of the Assembly commence at 10:00 AM sharp, and those who wish to attend must obtain admittance from the Office of the Clerk,” the statement from the Clerk’s Office emphasized.

It further reminded the public to observe the official dress code—traditional or formal suits—and to maintain silence during proceedings.
