Finance Minister Scheduled to Appear Before Deputies

Gambia’s Finance Minister, Mr. Seedy Keita, is scheduled to appear before lawmakers to report on the implementation and monitoring of the country’s 2024 annual budget. 

This development was unveiled as part of the approved agenda of the Second Ordinary Session of the Sixth Legislature in the 2024 Legislative year, by the office of the Clerk of the National Assembly in Banjul.

The said session is scheduled for 24 June to 25 July 2024, during which lawmakers will deliberate, consider, ratify, and adopt important state matters.

One such engagement is the oral ministerial statement on the implementation and monitoring of the 2024 annual budget by Minister Keita.

“In line with Standing Order 94 (1), the Minister of Finance is scheduled to appear before the legislature and present an oral ministerial statement on the implementation and monitoring of the 2024 annual budget on Monday 24th June 2024,” the Office of Clerk of the National Assembly said.

In line with Standing Order 65, Members are expected to witness the first reading of five bills by their respective Ministers on:

  1. the National Security Council Bill, 2024;
  2. Judiciary Officers’ (Remuneration and Other Entitlements Bill, 2024; and
  3. Vetting Bill, 2024, by the Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Dawda Jallow.

“The Higher Education Minister is also expected to appear before the plenary for the first reading of the bills titled: National Research and Innovation Fund; Gambia Tertiary and Higher Education Trust Fund, and Students Revolving Loan Scheme Bills, 2024 respectively.

According to the office of the Clerk, in the said approved agenda, the Finance Minister is again expected to present the National Assembly Salaries and Pensions Bill, 2024, whilst the Chairperson on Subsidiary Legislation, is also scheduled to present the Interpretation (Amendment) Bill, 2024; That this will be followed by a motion for consideration and ratification on the mutual visa exemption agreement for diplomatic and service passport holders between the Republic of the Gambia, and the Republic of Indonesia by the Minister for Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Gambians abroad.
