FEARS OF THE CHRISTIAN COMMUNITY NEED TO BE ADDRESSED BY THE STATE

Foroyaa has been approached to clarify whether the executive could order the Banjul City Council to close the Christian cemetry in Banjul. The Local Government Act provides for councils to take care of burial grounds in collaboration with communities.

Burial grounds do not need to be closed if they are not full and the act of closing them should emanate from the request of communities. When such requests are made councils should find alternative places to allocate to communities to use as grave yards. Hence there is no need for the executive to be involved in such matters.
