In many instances during the last cropping season, yields were low and even though the rains were good the output of the groundnut crop was a disappointment to farmers. It was indicated that the low yield was due mainly to low quality of seeds. There were promises of better-quality seeds in stages involving NARI.
What does the government intend to do in terms of farmers accessing good seeds and fertiliser This cropping season before it gets too late? Will they be made available at the village or nearby centres or will prohibitive transportation costs be involved that will make it unaffordable to farmers.
Foroyaa will monitor the situation.
