Family of mentally ill victim continues to request for corpse

By Sailu Bah The family of Bakary Bojang, alias “Gosso”, the mentally ill young manBakary Bojang, alias “Gosso” from Banjul, who was reported to have been accidently killed in the 30 December shooting near state house, is still appealing to the authorities to hand over his corpse for burial.A close family source revealed they have visited many places to meet those in authority, including the office of the mayor of Banjul and police headquarters, to request for their assistance for Bakary’s corpse to be eventually handed over to his family but to no avail. The source said it is now 24 days since the corpse of their late brother was taken to the mortuary of the Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital (EFSTH) without the family having access to see it and to give him a final rest. The source indicated that the family is renewing its appeal for the authorities to hand over the body to them for burial as this situation seriously worries Bakary’s aging and sick mother, who is said to be bed ridden. The issue of the corpses that are said to be linked to the 30 December incident and kept in the Banjul mortuary is being followed by Foroyaa as efforts have been made to talk to the hospital Public Relation Officer (PRO) who directed this reporter to the armed forces who are said to be in charge. Efforts to talk to the Gambia Armed Forces (GAF) PRO will be pursued regarding the situation of the said corpses in the mortuary in Banjul.]]>
