The family of Bakary Bojang, alias “Gosso”, the mentally ill young man
from Banjul, who was reported to have been accidently killed in the 30
December shooting near state house, is still appealing to the
authorities to hand over his corpse for burial.A close family source revealed they have visited many places to meet
those in authority, including the office of the mayor of Banjul and
police headquarters, to request for their assistance for Bakary’s
corpse to be eventually handed over to his family but to no avail.
The source said it is now 24 days since the corpse of their late
brother was taken to the mortuary of the Edward Francis Small Teaching
Hospital (EFSTH) without the family having access to see it and to
give him a final rest.
The source indicated that the family is renewing its appeal for the
authorities to hand over the body to them for burial as this situation
seriously worries Bakary’s aging and sick mother, who is said to be
bed ridden.
The issue of the corpses that are said to be linked to the 30 December
incident and kept in the Banjul mortuary is being followed by Foroyaa
as efforts have been made to talk to the hospital Public Relation
Officer (PRO) who directed this reporter to the armed forces who are
said to be in charge.
Efforts to talk to the Gambia Armed Forces (GAF) PRO will be pursued
regarding the situation of the said corpses in the mortuary in Banjul.]]>
