A relative of Yankuba Camara, a former Engine Operator at the National Water and Electricity Company Ltd 
(NAWEC) in Farafenni, has told Foroyaa that their loved one was jailed for a crime he did not commit. He said they (family) are therefore appealing to the president for his release. He said he has already served almost five of his ten year jail term.
Yankuba was arrested whilst at work on 8 June, 2010 as a result of a fire outbreak at the said power station. Yamadou Camara, an elder brother to Yankuba, explained that Yankuba was arrested by Farafenni policemen together with his boss Lang Dibba who was the Station Officer and Muhammed Mbowe, the Assistant Engine Operator a day after the outbreak. He added, “Yankuba Camara and Lang Dibba were convicted but Muhammed Mbowe was discharged”.
Yamadou said while the case was going on at the High Court, the Management of NAWEC head office wrote a memorandum to the court informing the court that the breakdown was not the fault of the arrestees but they were nevertheless convicted.
“The entire family of Yankuba is desperate and worried about their beloved one and we are appealing to the government for him to be released.” They are of the belief that if the Attorney General examines the case he will notice that it lacks merit.
