EX- SG SABALLY’S TRIAL ADJOURNED, As accused mother passed away

By Rohey Jadama The economic trial involving Mr. Momodou Sabally, the erstwhile Secretary General, Modou Sabally SGHead of the Civil Service and Minister for Presidential Affairs, did not proceed yesterday, 29th April 2015, as the accused is reported to be bereaved after his mother passed away, This was revealed to Justice Emmanuel Amadi of the Special Criminal Division of the Banjul High Court by Antouman Gaye, the defence counsel for Mr. Sabally when the case was called. “My lord the accused called me yesterday night and told me that his mother passed away and the accused is currently in his mother’s compound in Lamin where the funeral is taking place. I respectfully apply for an adjournment, “ said Lawyer Gaye. The Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) said he heard about the loss of the accused person’s mother and added that for that reason he is not objecting to the application. The trial judge granted the application and adjourned the case to 12th May 2015. Mr. Sabally is facing eight charges ranging from two counts of ‘Economic Crimes’, three counts of ‘Abuse of Office’, two counts of ‘Neglect of Official Duty’ and a single count of ‘Giving False Information to a Public Officer.  He however denies any wrong doing. The prosecution has so far called 6 witnesses to prove their case.]]>
