Madikeh Faal, a former National Intelligence Agency (NIA) officer, has not been seen since Wednesday, 17 February, 2016.
Mr. Faal served the Gambia Armed Forces for twelve (12) years before joining the NIA in 2006. He served the agency for eight (8) years and then later had a court case in 2013 when he was sentenced to 10 months in prison. After serving the jailed term, Faal stopped working for the agency and supported his family through taxi driving.
His desperate wife, Fatou Mboob, said her husband was, on the 17 February, 2016, telephoned by his former office, for him to report to the office. He said her husband did not return home after answering to them (NIA) that day. She added that for six (6) months now, she has been visiting the NIA in an attempt to see her husband but that she is never allowed to see him. Fatou said the NIA always ask her to go home and that they will call her to come when the need arises. She added that she received unconfirmed information that her husband was transferred to Mile 2 Prison last week.
She lamented the fact that her husband left six (6) children behind, most of who are all going to school. According to the wife, she is the one taking care of the feeding, school bills and other expenses of the family. This, she added, is very difficult for her as she only engages in petty businesses which are relatively inadequate to take care of even the basic needs of the family.
Fatou finally appealed to the authorities to consider her plight and release her husband or bring him to court for justice to be done in the case.
