Erstwhile Manchester United ace Saidy Janko has been summoned for Gambia’s crucial Africa Cup of Nation’s fixture with Gabon, Foroyaa Sport can report.
The 24-year-old has been on Gambia Football Federation’s wish-list spanning back in 2011 but has been laid back about committing his international future amid reported overtures from his country of birth Switzerland.
The Gambian FA took a giant step towards approaching all players of interest on their list in Europe, a break away from tradition of just emailing or relying on submissions by emissaries.
A player of FC Porto but loaned out to Young Boys of the Swiss Super League, the federation did not give detailed rundown of whether he has accepted playing for Gambia in updates released during coach Tom Saintfiet’s tour.
However, the right-back-cum winger’s inclusion leaves the door wide open for such an undertaking.
Maudo Jarju is one of the other five fresh faced players called to the team.
A 22-year-old, Jarju plies his trade with first division Austrian outfit Austria Wien and will be vying with Bubacarr Sanneh and Omar Colley in defence considering Mohammed Mbye is club-less this minute.
Five-goal scorer Alasana Jatta in the Danish second tier is another freshman including Abdoulie Sanyang (Belgium second tier).
Serie A Bologna’s left-sided midfielder Musa Juwara is the other big-name on the roster in Tom Saintfiet’s 35-man squad for Gabon’s Afcon qualifier which is expected to be trimmed based on commitment.
