DOCKWORKERS IN A DILEMMA

The President of the Republic should convene a meeting with the dockworkers, many of whom are now faced with redundancy because of developments at the Ports which they find difficult to understand. A number of them are beginning to take court action to pursue claims that could be easily handled if a fully functioning union system exists in the country.

The dockworkers of the country deserve to be given their just dues in any of these public-private partnership. The Gambia Ports Authority should be a major protector of the dockworkers. Its management has sufficient information on what is required to be done to protect a most vulnerable sector of the working class.

Foroyaa will start to amplify their voices if the government fails to intervene to protect their interest.
